Online Summer Book Club
Beginning in summer 2015, and continuing each summer, WINE hosts a special Read Between the WINEs Book Club, where we hand select a book for everyone affiliated with WINE to read together. The book club takes place right here, on our website, so that no matter where we are located, we can come together to read and grow in faith.
In summer 2015, we kicked off our summer book club with The Grace of Yes: Eight Virtues for Generous Living by Lisa Hendey. More than 500 women from across the country read and discussed this book together!
In 2016, we will continue our summer tradition with Blessed Are You: Finding Inspiration From Our Sisters in Faith by Melanie Rigney.
In this book, stories of the saints, our sisters in faith, will encourage us in our own spiritual lives. Some of these saints are familiar—Teresa of Avila, Catherine of Siena, Bernadette of Lourdes—while others are not as well known—Maria Karlowska, Josephine Bakhita, Elizabeth of Portugal. They come from different places and different times, yet the lives of these women illustrate the qualities of the Beatitudes—what the Catechism of the Catholic Church calls “the heart of Jesus’ preaching” (1716)—in a down-to-earth way. Through the lives of these exemplary women and the qualities they espouse, we will find ways to live more fully the Gospel values of Christian life.
Join us on Saturdays, beginning June 18, 2016, as we explore and discuss Blessed Are You.
There are two ways to participate:
Virtual book club. Read along with us at home. Then, join us here each Saturday—between June 18 and August 20, for reflections by WINE’s team of writers. They will reflect on each chapter and post discussion questions. Leave comments on each post with your thoughts on the chapter. We are excited to host a lively online conversation each week.
Small group setting. Do you already belong to a book club or Bible study? Continue meeting this summer, but in a more relaxed manner. Or simply invite some friends to read and discuss Blessed Are You together! Meet as many times as you want—once, twice, weekly or monthly—it’s up to you. Reflections/questions throughout the book will guide your group discussion. Serve a favorite snack and beverage. It’s that simple!
